The Maine Lodging Tax & Registration
Every Maine operator must register with Maine Revenue Services and collect the state's 9% lodging tax on stays under 28 days — even when a platform collects it for you. Maine has no statewide STR license, but most coastal towns require their own annual registration and safety inspection. Lodgism handles registration and filing for every property we manage.
Bar Harbor's cap
Bar Harbor limits whole-home rentals that aren't the owner's primary residence (its "VR-2" category) to 9% of the town's housing — and that cap has been full. If you don't live in the home, a license may not be available. We know the VR-1/VR-2 system and can tell you what's actually possible before you buy or list.
